Student branch of the World Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG ZG)

American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Zagreb Student Chapter (AAPG ZG) was reactivated in 2016 at the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering. Members of the AAPG ZG are students of Geology, Petroleum Engineering and related professions. The Chapter was established to organize lectures, presentations, conferences, field trips and social events to help connect students of related professions from around the world. One of the main goals of the Association is to establish international cooperation with other AAPG student chapters in Europe and the world. Our chapter has been active for a year and few months and counts over 70 members. In that time we have organized numerous lectures, field trips, team building activities and participated in the “4th AAPG European Student Chapter Leadership Days” in Szeged and Miskolc in Hungary, July 19-24, 2016. In November 2016 we joined “AAPG Visiting Geoscientists“ program thanks to which we have opportunity to host geoscientists with huge work experience in petroleum geology. Their lectures attract students, but also professors and professionals. Our first guest was Mr. Stuart Harker from Scotland. In March 2017 we visited “Žutica“, one of the biggest oil fields in Croatia. Petroleum engineers and geologists from INA plc held a presentation about exploration and production at “Žutica”. After the presentation, they showed us around the field. In May 2017, as a part of the “AAPG Visting Geoscientists“ we hosted Mr. Berend van Hoorn from Spain. His lecture “Structural Setting of Turbidite Systems“ attracted many students, professors and professionals.
President of the AAPG Zagreb Student Chapter is Borna Čuljak.
