  • The horizontal courses programme includes specific knowledge from Geophysics, Numerical Mathematics, Geomathematics, Engineering Statistics, Engineering Chemistry, GIS and Databases required by students of all modules, and some courses contain learning outcomes set for specific students of each module.
  • Geology Module contains 11 courses in which students acquire knowledge from fundamental geological research or geological researches applied to mineral deposits or environmental protection. Within the part of the basic geological research, the thematic groups covered geology and mineralogy, i.e. regional geology, stratigraphy, structural geology and geodynamics, along with geochemistry and petrology of sedimentary, magmatic and metamorphic rocks and paleopedology. Applied geological surveys include methods important for raw material deposits, hydrocarbon basins, mineralogical and geochemical researches related to environmental protection, and geodynamic research of Earth for the purpose of earthquake protection planning.

  • Mining Engineering
  • Mining Module consists of 11 courses focused on: exploration, exploitation and refining of raw materials; modelling the behaviour of geological materials in mining and geotechnics; optimization of the process in execution of mining and geotechnical works and facilities, mining and technological applications of explosives; anti-explosion protection and security technology; simulation of primary and secondary raw materials processing; and environmental management.

  • Petroleum engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering Module includes exploration, development and exploitation of hydrocarbon and geothermal water reservoirs as important energy resources for the Republic of Croatia and systematic monitoring of environmental impacts during their exploitation and transport. The module elements also include analysis of energy markets, economics and energy system management.

  • Geological engineering
  • Geological Engineering Module contains 12 courses that can be grouped into the main thematic groups of hydrogeology and engineering geology, as well as natural and technical-building stone. The hydrogeological group of courses covers 6 courses with topics related to the problem of alluvial and karstic aquifers, hydraulics, flow modelling and transport of pollutants in groundwater systems, monitoring, hydrogeological research operations as well as protection and recovery of underground waters. This thematic group also includes hydrology that deals with surface water issues. The engineering and geological group of courses – geo-hazards comprises 4 courses dealing with the characterization of engineering geological units, engineering geological zoning, prognostic maps of geohazards, engineering geological models, and remote exploration and monitoring in engineering geology. One course is about natural and technical-building stone.

Structure of the programme:

  • 20 % teaching courses (30 ECTS credits)
  • 80% research work (150 ECTS credits)

  • mandatory – single mandatory course for all modules (Methodology of scientific work, 2 ECTS-a)
  • elective – a total of fifty-one course (four modules and a horizontal courses); each course with grouped list of learning outcomes. Student enrol 28 ECTS credits based on groups of learning outcomes of the specific course. Selected learning outcomes must be linked to the research topic.

Enrolment fee:

  • 1.350,00 €/semester (a total of 8.100,00 €)
       - 10% doctoral candidate resources (material costs of research activities)
       - 20% supervisors resources (material costs of research activities)

Obligations of the doctoral candidate:

  • Regular consultations with supervisor
  • Regular submission of the Annual doctoral student progress report (DR.SC.-04) to the faculty council of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering
  • Regular update of the doctoral student e-portfolio
  • Maintain progress at the doctoral programme in line with compulsory deadlines within the study structure
  • Attend scientific and professional workshops, conferences and seminars
  •  Before defending doctoral theses, the doctoral candidate must have one manuscript published or accepted for publication at internationally reviewed scientific citation bases (Web of Service or SCOPUS), thematically related to the doctoral research (in which doctoral candidate is the only author or one of the main authors).
