The area of scientific interest of the members of the Department of Chemistry include: corrosion and the protection of metals using ecologically acceptable corrosion inhibitors, development of electrochemical methods for the characterization of organic matter in the atmosphere, application of electrochemical methods for the qualitative and quantitative characterization of surface active substances in different water systems, development of electrochemical method for graphene synthesis, synthesis of graphene/conductive polymer composite for supercapacitors applications. The Department’s employees participate in scientific research conducted through the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering’s scientific projects. The Department was awarded one financial grant for exploration. It was provided by the University of Zagreb for the project entitled „Assessment of the environmental quality in the lakes formed in the area of abandoned mines“.One member of the Department is a collaborator on the research project supported by the Croatian Science Foundation (″The Sulphur and Carbon Dynamics in the Sea and Fresh-Water Environment″, IP-11–2013–1205 SPHERE).Members of the Department of Chemistry collaborate with scientists from other institutions: Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology; Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Faculty of Metallurgy; Ruđer Bošković Istitute; Southern Federal University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia; Aleksandras Stulginskis University, Faculty of Water and Land Management, Kaunas, Lithuania.Members of the Department published articles in the Bulgarian Chemical Communication; J Soils Sediments; Agriculture & Forestry; Croatica Chemica Acta and Coatings.
